First New York Federal Credit Union - Privacy Notice

First New York Federal Credit Union strongly believes that confidentiality and protection of member information are among our fundamental responsibilities. We are committed to maintaining confidentiality as we serve you, our members.

The mission of First New York is to offer a wide range of quality financial services which best meet member needs, while preserving a competitive and stable financial institution. To meet these needs and to stay competitive, we work closely with strategic partners to broaden our offerings of products and services.

In pursuing this mission, the directors, management, and staff of First New York Federal Credit Union are concerned about and respect the privacy of your personal financial information. We understand that members furnish sensitive information to the credit union in the course of daily business, and the credit union is committed to treating such information responsibly. We know that you expect privacy and security for your personal and financial affairs.

The credit union will take all the necessary steps to safeguard sensitive information that has been entrusted to us by you. The following privacy policy and disclosure outline our credit union's practices regarding personally identifiable financial information for members and others with whom we establish a "member relationship" pursuant to 12 CFR 716 of NCUA's Rules and Regulations.

Types of Information We Collect

In order to conduct business with you, we collect information about you, and in order to protect your information, we maintain and enforce strict security procedures. We collect nonpublic personal information about you from various sources, including:

  • Information we receive from you on applications and other forms, such as your name, address, social security number and income.
  • Information about your transactions with us or others, such as your account balance, payment history and credit card usage.
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency, such as your creditworthiness and credit history

Nonpublic personal information does not include information the credit union obtains from government records, widely distributed media, or government-mandated disclosures.

Types of Information We Disclose

First New York does not sell or disclose member information to telemarketing companies. However, in order to provide our members with the products and services to meet financial needs, we may disclose all of the information we collect as described above, as permitted by law or regulation, to the following:

  • Other financial institutions such as insurance companies, brokerage firms, or credit union service organizations, with whom we have joint marketing agreements
  • Companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf

We may also disclose information we collect about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our credit union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records.

Confidentiality Protection with Strategic Partners

When we share nonpublic personal information with nonaffiliated third parties as described above, we structure the relationships to protect your information. The sharing is only as permitted by law and is subject to contractual confidentiality provisions that restrict the release and use of such information.

In the future, First New York may enter into other strategic alliances with financial service companies to improve our ability to offer competitive products and services to our members. Any future alliance that includes sharing personal information will follow the privacy practices described in this notice.

Information Sharing Restrictions

Other than the disclosures referenced above, First New York does not release your nonpublic personal information to nonaffiliated third parties.

Information about Former Members

First New York does not retain information about former members for use in current or future marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information of former members with nonaffiliated third parties or affiliates unless required by law.

Our Security Measures

First New York maintains strong security controls to ensure that nonpublic personal information in our files and computers is protected. We restrict access to nonpublic information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you or who may be responsible to maintain information security practices. We also maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your nonpublic personal information.
